An unknown creature that washed up on the beach in Montauk, New York, has been dubbed the "Montauk Monster" and captivated the American imagination.

Awesome Sand Hotel a world first
Awesome Sand Hotel a world first. Built by Weymouth, Dorsets sand man Mark Anderson this is a great feat of sand engineering. Perhaps it should become a semi-permanent fixture...

Inside Out to launch Dorset's Cultural Olympiad celebrations
Sounds awesome...
Inside Out is to present a special one-off event to celebrate the
launch of the Cultural Olympiad in Dorset in September. The
performance follows on from the dramatic success of Inside Out 2007 and
its programme of extraordinary events in extraordinary places, which
recorded audiences of over 30,000 last September.
Veles e Vents (Wind and Sails) charts the story of a
dangerous sea journey, told through a spectacular piece of outdoor
performance involving drama, sound and explosive pyrotechnics. As with
previous Inside Out events, it is completely FREE of charge to attend
(although voluntary donations will be collected to help make future
events possible).

wOW!
That was pretty mad. Just had to go upstairs and stumbled/mis-stepped. A lot of weight went on my bad leg for a millisecond, there was a crunch, and agony. After half a second I realised the crunch and continuing pain were from my foot...
It's amazing, moving my toes, which is often quite unpleasant but very necessary, circulation wise is much better, it wasn't all nerve damage, hurrah.
It must have been partially dislocated and cast in place. It really hurts still but feels strangely "right". Still a bit scary but what a lucky fall, in many ways.

Tag Cow Privacy Warning
I use Tag Cow to autometatag my flickr photos for FREE, which is nice... . Sometimes a bit sketchy but handy, see below...Tag Cow uses Mechanical Turk and state that ALL photos will be visible to tagging "resources". Mechanical Turk uses A.A.I, artificial artificial intelligence, i.e. people. You see where this is heading....
Just so you know,...
my mates are going to laugh when I tell them my photos are autometatagged by aai.... westside!

Weymouth Carnival - Mobility team
In an effort to have a good time and raise some much needed awareness for those of us with mobility issues, (like why aren't there double yellows in front of dropcurbs?) I thought I'd enter the carnival...
I don't know yet if anyone else in a mobility scooter or wheelchair is planning to? I've had four volunteers so far, please let anyone you know who might be interested know. I was thinking an aquatic theme?
There's not long enough for the giant, animated puppets I had in mind this year, though apparently wheelchairs and scooters make excellent bases for these...
Please email me if you or someone you know is interested

The Spookiest Places - Forbes.com
Italy is full of spooky places, from the cursed Abbey of Lucedio--where, rumors say, the monks became devil worshippers beginning in the 1600s--to the catacombs of Rome. One place--Poveglia Island near Venice--is so scary that no tourists are allowed to step foot on it.
When the plague hit Italy in 1576, thousands of dead bodies and the still living victims were dumped on the island to be buried or left to rot. Centuries later, a hospital was built by a doctor who tortured patients there. The hospital, his office, a church and the crematorium still stand, but no tourists are permitted on the island at any time.

Covered in bees?
Sam just drew my attention to this article, the last line is indeed a classic, as is the headline... But fuck em... they're only bees...
The Canadians should think themselves lucky, at least they're not wearing bee helmets...
